Mood: waiting for wind
4th June 2008
Windsurfing: Camber - Jurys Gap
Wind Direction: SW
Wind Stength: F3-4
Surf / Sea State: relatively flat with some wave
Air Temperature: nice
Sea Temperature: okay
Weather: sunny & light wind, kinda sea breeze?
Max Speed:
Distance Covered:

Afterworker, with Camber Mafia on his 'territory' .... he was on Naish All Terrain 115 & Naish 6.5m something or other rig, I went 5.8m Poison & Kona 10'5 as I'd been busting to get it out at Camber since I first used it !!!

Oh yes ..... it is exactly what I wanted it to be, fun & easy, and the tool to milk even the smallest of waves. Went out over the white water easy, subtle chop hops over waves were problem free, and even the more flamboyant 'hops' were painless. Going upwind was no problem, though I noticed the Mafia pointed higher than me when we were planing ..... he did have a lot more fin and a bit more sail too, so kind of what I'd expected.

Coming in and dropping down wave faces was a joy, shredding waves backside, and even getting psuedo floaties off the top of waves before dropping right back down them.

Even found myself going for fast tacks on the inside, which hopefully will benefit my regular wave sailing where I'm completely useless at tacking !! Gybing the board on a wave is superb ... in fact this could be the perfect board for people to learn wave sailing on.

I did have to let the Mafia have a go on my kit, so as a result I got a quick spin on his Naish set up. The board felt really crisp and lively underfoot, certainly compared to the mellow ride of the 10'5 Kona, and the rig felt a little back handed to me, but the combo felt like a good coastal set up, and when I gave it a wave wiggle on the way in it responded nicely, and on the way out it was keen to book airtime. Didn't get a really long go on it, but can see why the Mafia like it ... apart from it matching his gert big Naish tattoo ;-)

Really good session, kinda what it's all about, and with the 10'5 & 5.8m combo, I'm really wondering whether my next board should be a 100 litre FSW or an 85 litre wave board .... I'm really thinking that with 4.2, 4.7, 5.3 & 5.8 and a 10'5 plus the right wave board I could be pretty well covered. That said, with the toybox available to me I reckon I can take my time to experiment ... perhaps something form the 2009 collection like the Pocket Wave 85 or U-Surf 84 and a DaCurve 85 Team Edition (twinny) to partner the Kona 10'5 would work best ... or maybe the bigger Pocket Wave 93 and the DaCurve ..... or my old favourite the 3S97 and a 3S76 .... or ..... or .... X-Wave 93 and .....

Anyway, enough of that ..... one board that looks like it'll be first on the list for my 2009 quiver is the Kona 10'5 .... proper feeling the love for that board :-)
